i've been having bacterial vaginosis for most of my sex life… which is several years. i keep getting this bacterial infection eventhough i use a condom. i get treated for it by doctor's presciption of metronidazole(flagyl)… then it would go away then after 5 or 6 months… i get it again. my bf got tested and he doesn't hv any infection. i thought maybe i was allergic to latex condom so i switched to lambskin condoms… but resently got BV again. i'm considering not having sex until i find out why i keep getting BV eventhough i use protection everytime. i shower everday. i wipe from front to back. i even wash my underwear by hand w/ soap then toss it in the washer along w/ my other clothes and dry them in the dryer. i wear a pantiliner to keep the area dry. i just don't understand why i keep having this chronic problem. i have an appt with a obgyn doc to discuss this further. anyone who have had this problem and a solution please help. thank you so much in advance.
I had this problem too. Make sure that you refrain from taking baths (only showers), make sure if your bf is going to touch you in your "area" that he has washed his hands with warm water and soap, if you use toys make sure they are sterilized and put away from dust and dirt after every use, stop wearing pantyliner everyday and let yourself "breath", don't wear tight fitting clothes and only cotton underwear. Unfortunately a lot of women are susceptible to BV and we just have to be very careful to try and prevent it. Hope some of this helps, good luck
Recurrent ‘Bacterial Vaginosis’ can be very traumatic to live with. Sometimes after taking all the creams, potions and antibiotics the problem still comes back time after time. After suffering with recurrent bacterial vaginosis (BV) for nearly 3 years I eventually found a totally natural cure. The claim was to be clear of bacterial vaginosis in 3 days. Imagine my delight when I found the claims to be totally true. If you have bacterial vaginosis for the first time or have had recurrent bacterial vaginosis for some time this is something you really should consider looking at Bacterial Vaginosis Help – The 3 Day Cure
I'm only, 20 I have horrible vaginal dryness, chronic BV. What do I do?

Women who eat a lot of yogurt (containing active cultures) have fewer problems

Maybe you should get your bf to get the same prescription as you and take it just so you can rule out any transfer from one person to the other. …..
Wash your hands well anti bacterial soap on a regular basis…

would be a start and then I would read in Wikipedia.
Also are you taking antibiotics for anything else?

i used to get it a lot and i couldn't figure out why. then i thought it was because i was taking baths and not showers, so i tried the showers instead and it cut down on the BV. BV isn't necessarily sexually transmitted. i've had it multiple times, though not as often as you, and i don't think that even once it has been through sex. yours probably aren't either, though it was a good idea to get your boyfriend tested to make sure you weren't passing it back and forth. BV sucks, huh?
the gov center for disease control makes it clear on this site that it is not always an STD and says anothr thing we can do is not douche. it says that it is not clear why the overgrowth of harmful bacteria happens in some women. i guess we're unlucky, hmm?
