When I first began having sex with a new partner, I kept having recurrent episodes of bacterial vaginosis. We weren’t using condoms and everytime after I would be treated, it would just come back again after sex with him. I refrained from having sex with him for a long time and I was fine, no BV. Last night we had sex for the first time in a while but we used a condom. But towards the end and ever since I have had extreme vaginal dryness and slight irritation around the opening. I’ve never had a natural lubrication problem (I’m in my 20s) and for about a week before last night I was having a slight increase in my normal discharge. Now, nothing. Why could this be? Maybe a reaction to the condoms? Please any answers are greatly appreciated!
Could this possibly be anothing episode of BV beginning? Geez I went through hell for the past few months trying to rid myself of it!!!

have you ever had problems with latex? I am allergic to latex and whenever i use latex condoms i have that problem.

I have been having some pain during intercourse. The information I have researched identifies it as secondary (arising after a pain free period) superficial entrance (only upon entrance into the vagina) pain. I was sexually mistreated (not sure I’d use the word “abuse”) by my last partner, but my new partner is a great man. I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis and a systemic yeast infection (not candidiasis), but both of those have been cleared up for a few months. The articles I have read list sexual trauma, recurrent yeast infections, and sexual infection as possible causes, but now that all three have been cleared up (the trauma resolved by me leaving him), I don’t know what the problem could be. I feel fine once he’s inside me, but it hurts tremendously (like a tearing, significantly worse than when I lost my virginity) when he is entering me. Fingers and tampons pose no problems. When I got my pap smear done nothing showed up as abnormal and the speculum was not painful. What is going on with my body?

you might be tensing up inside cause you know what is going to happen when it goes in. try to relax and think about something else. i had a similar problem a few months ago and for no reason at all it hurt like pins and needles and really tight when he was inside of me. i put it off for a week or so and then it gradually got better. just work around intercourse for now and take your time. i hope this helps!

What is worse than being diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis? That
would be having recurrent bacterial vaginosis. You may think such
case is not possible since you are accustomed to the idea that when
a person is diagnosed with a particular condition and he or she has
overcome it, then that person can no longer be diagnosed with that
same condition in the future. With recurrent bacterial vaginosis,
this remains a fantasy. There are indeed some women who are
diagnosed with recurrent bacterial vaginosis, and this adds to the
usual discomfort that comes with the condition.

However, if you have been diagnosed with such a condition, well, do
not fret just yet. There are actually proven methods that you can
use to fight off the condition, thereby preventing it from becoming
a recurrent one. If you have been diagnosed with bacterial
vaginosis once or twice, there is still much hope that you wonít
develop recurrent bacterial vaginosis in the end. One very
effective thing that you can do is to consume one cup of yogurt
every single day. Yogurt, after all, contains healthy bacteria that
can fight off the bad bacteria that can be found in your vagina. By
having constant supply of yogurt in the fridge, and by being
diligent about your diet, you can surely kiss the notion of having
recurrent bacterial vaginosis goodbye.

But why should you take in yogurt when it contains bacteria in the
first place? You must understand that there will always be good and
bad bacteria found in the womenís vagina. To avoid having recurrent
bacterial vaginosis, you must maintain the balance between good and
bad bacteria in your vagina. And since yogurt has good bacteria in
it, then this can help maintain the much-needed balance here. You
can then stop worrying about developing recurrent bacterial
vaginosis.

Another way to effectively decrease your chances of becoming
afflicted with recurrent bacterial vaginosis is to have just one
sexual partner. Recurrent bacterial vaginosis is a sexually
transmitted disease, after all, so it is better to be safe than
sorry here.

I have been suffering from recurrent bacterial vaginosis for nearly four years now. I have seen four different doctors who have proscribed every medication available to treat it. (Metrogel, Flagy, Metronidazole, and something that starts with a T) I no longer douche, I rarely wear underwear, and when I do, they are no-dye, cotton undies. I do not use perfumes, I have stopped using tampons, I use perfume free detergent. My doc even had my husband take Metronidazole. It comes back every month following my period, or after a lot of sexual activity. I no longer feel comfortable working, or being around other people because there is always some kind of odor. Any suggestions?

I recently started taking a probiotic called Primadophilus Reuteri. It helps to replenish the normal flora in your vagina. I've only been taking it for 2 days but I really notice a difference already. Also try folic acid and a b vitamin complex. Good luck.
There's also a great forum full of awesome ladies who share their experiences with BV and the treatments (rx and natural) that they have tried.
It’s wise to avoid potential contact with any chemicals during pregnancy.

Spermicides are chemicals that immobilise and kill sperm, so they aren’t exactly biologically friendly.

They also cause disruption to the normal balance of bacteria and PH levels within the vagina, and during pregnancy this can more readily result in the introduction of infection.

A pregnant cervix is also a lot more sensitive than normal and can easily be irritated by the chemicals, and an irritated cervix is not what you need when you’re pregnant, as the cervix needs to remain closed and as trauma free as possible to ensure the progress of the pregnancy.

This is not to say they WILL cause a problem, but it’s best to avoid the possibility.
Recurrent ‘Bacterial Vaginosis’ can be very traumatic to live with.
it probably is an infection. or u may be starting ur period.
thebest thing you can do is go see your doctor before anything else can get worse.

BV is typically treated with antibiotic medication. Metronidazole (Flagyl) is the first-choice treatment for BV. If you aren’t pregnant, you can choose to take it by mouth (orally) or by inserting it into the vagina; pregnant women are only treated orally.

Antibiotic treatment for BV can lead to vaginal yeast infections because the medications change the balance of organisms in the vagina, allowing an excess of yeast to grow. You may be able to prevent this by regularly eating yogurt with active Lactobacillus acidophilus culture or taking L. acidophilus dietary supplements.

Some women have success with using oral or vaginal lactobacillus by itself to treat bacterial vaginosis.

If you have been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis (BV), you can use lactobacillus (as in yogurt) to help restore the balance of vaginal bacteria, either along with or instead of antibiotic treatment. Lactobacillus organisms stop the growth of harmful bacteria, boost the immune system, and increase resistance to infection.

Good luck to you! I had BV last year and it’s not fun!

I'm 22 and my husband is 23. He is the only guy I have ever had sex with and I'm the only person he has been with too. I have had a lot of recurrent bacterial vaginosis over the past couple of years. But lately I've been having some pelvic pain that comes and goes and it also hurts during intercourse, we have been trying to have a baby for 6 months now and nothing is happening, so I'm a little worried I could have PID due to all my bacterial vaginosis infections I've had. But my cycles are always regular starting every 28-30 days. What do you think is reason I'm not getting pregnant?

You really need to talk to your doctor about these symptoms. It could be any number of things or it could be nothing at all to worry about but the only way to find out is to have some tests done. It can take up to a year to conceive so don't lose hope. Keep trying and keep the faith. Call your doctor if your symptoms persist though. Good luck. I am glad to see there are still people out there that are faithful and choose not to sleep around.

I know of a few ladies that tried the Ortho-Evra patch but none of them ever had a problem with recurrent bacterial vaginosis.

The acidophillous can be of help in trying to prevent BV but they do a better job at trying to prevent yeast infections.

You can find acidophillous pills in places like Wal-Mart

I would recommend getting in touch with your doctor as well to see what she says.
