Chronic Bacterial Vaginosis- Symptom of another condition?

January 10th, 2012

Last year May I was diag. with bacterial vaginosis and treated with a dose of 3 pills at one time. (I also had an abnormal pap & colposcopy which came out negative.) I did not feel right and went back recently. I was diag. with vaginosis again and was given Flagyl for 7 days. I saw my regular MD for the past month for other symptoms, after a urine test said I had a UTI and gave me a dose of Cipro (3 pills/3 days.) I have finished this dosing and still 2 weeks later know that I am not right. I am going to go back t the Gyn again for a 4th treatment. Before the summer I have never had anything like this not even a yeast infection.

I have been going to my MD for other symptoms such has palpitations, high blood pressure (145/100), dizzy spells, nausea spells, fatigue, headaches, ear infections, flushing, periods of low body temp (94 deg) and low pulse, night sweats, sleep apnea and brown spots on my back. Now Im just nervous that the bacterial vaginosis could be a sign something else??

you sound exactly like me. i ended up getting a dx of lyme disease. please ask them to check for it. i started out exactly the same as you.

Chronic Bacterial Vaginosis – The Symptoms

December 29th, 2011

Knowing the signs and symptoms of diseases can be an immense help for virtually anyone, regardless if you are a medical professional or not.  It is always good to know something about what you may have, if only not to aggravate it by doing something or taking something that might actually make it worse, or result in making treatment of the condition harder or even impossible.  It is also good since one of the first things a doctor will ask you is what symptoms you may have noticed about your possible condition, since they may need to know information that will not be readily gathered through laboratory tests.  Hence, it is always good to observe certain things about your body, especially if you suspect that you have an illness or infection, especially ones that tend to be discreet in nature, such as bacterial vaginosis.

Bacterial vaginosis is a mild infection of the vagina caused by an imbalance of the naturally-occurring bacteria present there.  The imbalance in the natural bacterial flora in the vagina allows one or more bacterial types to multiply more and become predominantly aggressive, producing toxins that affect the natural defenses of the body, allowing it to get disease from sources that normally would not affect the body adversely.  This imbalance can also allow these other types of bacteria to multiply so much that it will actually prevent the natural restoration of the bacterial flora, thus requiring the use of antibiotics and other chemical agents just to allow the natural balance to be restored.

Being an infection, bacterial vaginosis will exhibit some of the more typical symptoms of major infections, such as swelling and irritation, sometimes even accompanied by intense itching.  However, the most prominent symptom of bacterial vaginosis is an abnormal discharge from the vagina, especially after sexual intercourse.  This discharge can be either quite watery or even dense, although most will exhibit a vey unpleasant fishy odor.   These symptoms, however, should be noted as being attributed to bacterial vaginosis only, although there have been reports of more severe and worrisome symptoms that manifest in cases of untreated bacterial vaginosis, such as palpitations, high blood pressure, nausea, headaches, dizzy spells, flushing, sleep apnea, and even night sweats.  These symptoms, however, must be noted as being attributed to some other illness or aggravation brought about by an untreated case of bacterial vaginosis, and not solely because of bacterial vaginosis itself.

chronic bacterial vaginosis…HELP?

December 18th, 2011

I have been suffering with BV ever since the birth of my first so thats about 3yrs now. Two months after i gave birth i started suffering from gall stones. I got the BV in september and never really got it treated due to Insurance and financial issues. So October i was admitted in to the hospital to have my gallbladder removed. I guess my question is due to not treating this BV and being hospitalized and rececving all these dif antibiotic and treatment could the BV metalisize to the point where theres no treatment or could this be from the c-section i had?
I have taken everything orally and topically that my doc has prescribed me and nothing seems to work. Should i also see a derm for the vaginal area cause the itching just does not go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes i have had all std screening come back normal & all my paps are normal.
I am def look into getting a 2nd and 3rd opinion!

Ok, I’ve had the recurrent BV / Yeast issue and it took me forever to get it under control.

First off throw out ANY and ALL topical creme’s, antibiotics, douches etc, they do NOTHING but harm you more! If you have what I had you are straddling a yeast infection and BV infection that come as one leaves etc.

Go to Wal-mart or Target or a drug store and look for AZO YEAST ( www.azoproducts.com) follow the instructions on dosing and don’t go over because it causes nausea. What you need to do is start taking PRO-Biotics (acidophiles- it’s in the AZO) it will replenish the good bacteria that the anti-biotics took from you. Eat garlic ( garlic is a natural healer) , drink alot of water, stay away from sugar. I know this will sound crazy, but get fresh garlic cloves and slice them and insert them directly into your vagina.. it will burn but it will take the infection out, and stop the itching.. to help soothe your itching you can also use some of the stuff that helps with feminine dryness.

I promise, I am not crazy, I went thru hell with this and the only thing that helped was natural medicines.

I also used acupuncture which helped as well.

Some of the best recommended products just do not work for everybody the best way to cure bacterial vaginosis and to stop it coming back is to get in tune with your body and cure it the natural way. If you would like to find out more about anatural cure for bacterial vaginosis CLICK HERE NOW.

bacterial vaginosis… keeps reoccurring and need solution.?

July 31st, 2011

i've been having bacterial vaginosis for most of my sex life… which is several years. i keep getting this bacterial infection eventhough i use a condom. i get treated for it by doctor's presciption of metronidazole(flagyl)… then it would go away then after 5 or 6 months… i get it again. my bf got tested and he doesn't hv any infection. i thought maybe i was allergic to latex condom so i switched to lambskin condoms… but resently got BV again. i'm considering not having sex until i find out why i keep getting BV eventhough i use protection everytime. i shower everday. i wipe from front to back. i even wash my underwear by hand w/ soap then toss it in the washer along w/ my other clothes and dry them in the dryer. i wear a pantiliner to keep the area dry. i just don't understand why i keep having this chronic problem. i have an appt with a obgyn doc to discuss this further. anyone who have had this problem and a solution please help. thank you so much in advance.

I had this problem too. Make sure that you refrain from taking baths (only showers), make sure if your bf is going to touch you in your "area" that he has washed his hands with warm water and soap, if you use toys make sure they are sterilized and put away from dust and dirt after every use, stop wearing pantyliner everyday and let yourself "breath", don't wear tight fitting clothes and only cotton underwear. Unfortunately a lot of women are susceptible to BV and we just have to be very careful to try and prevent it. Hope some of this helps, good luck :)

Chronic Bacterial Vaginosis- Symptom of another condition?

after reading your last paragraph there I would suggest you get your ovaries and thyroid checked or even your pituitary checked, they all control certain (different) hormones and if anything is wrong with them then your hormones will be off balance too. hormones control more than just a person's reproductive drive, they also help regulate sleeping patterns, body temperature, body chemistry, balance..well just about everything really. so if your hormones are off, then everything else will be off too and even if the imbalance is not the direct cause then it still can open the way for other problems because of suppressing immunities.

Help, Chronic Bacterial Vaginosis!?

March 21st, 2011

What if you have gone to the doctor 15 times. What if you have tried the meds over and over again? I suffer with reoccurring BV. I have tried everything. Here is what I have tried:

All known medications (flagyl & metrogel)
Changed my diet (no sugar, yeast)
Cotton underwear
No feminine products
No tampons (pads only)
No sex (two months)
No tight cloths
Wipe front to back
Use alcohol wipe after each bowel movement
Use dye & perfume free soaps & detergents.

The Results:
The meds have destroyed the lining of my stomach causing severe cramping (not related to periods). The doctor should warn women of this side effect.
I lost 20 lbs but still have bv. I am depressed and my husband thinks I’m not attracted to him.

What’s next? I saw on this site where someone used “uritract powder” I can not find this anywhere but I hope to find it and use it! Also, I read about using Tea Tree Essential Oil. I found this at GNC in the mall & I am going to use it. Ideas? Help!!!

A few other suggestions that came to mind while reading here;

If using pads make sure they are organic, cloth or homemade, commercial pads contain synthetics that prevent aeration to the vulva and chemicals that can affect vaginal pH and so in turn affect the natural flora within your vagina leading to infections.

Don’t use soap to wash with, for the same reason as not using commercial pads, because soaps contain chemicals that can affect vaginal pH it can in turn lead to infections – your vagina only ever needs water to wash with and a good wipe within the inner-labia to wash away dirt, your vagina is self-cleaning so can take care of the rest.

Watch out for detergents, you may have a bad reaction to the chemicals in your washing powder, don’t just switch brands but keep an eye on the ingredients in the washing powder you are using – try switching to a more natural brand or not using washing powder at all, there are things such as eco balls you can try instead. Also try adding some tea tree oil to your washing as well as this may help kill off any bacteria lingering on your underwear.

The problem with bacterial vaginosis is that it is not just a case of treating the infection but also trying to reintroduce a healthy bacterial balance within the vagina and keeping any further infections away. For the most part your vagina is very good at taking care of itself, often when it comes to BV I have seen that medications do make the situation worse because although it may solve one problem it can cause a whole load of new ones by killing off not just ‘bad’ bacteria but also ‘good’ bacteria or can cause other infections such as yeast infections being common with antibiotic use.
BV is one of the most common vaginal infections around, but for some women it is a constant problem and then the whole thing seems to turn into a mystery.

I share your pain as I had constant infections, however mine were due to using tampons and as soon as I switched to using a menstrual cup I no longer got infections – someone did tell me something about a type of laser therapy that kills off all vaginal flora you then re-introduce healthy bacteria. Unfortunately I never did find further information on this, however I will say it came from the natural-living line of thought so might be worth going to a naturopath or similar to look at alternative treatments and look at your health as a whole to try to find the cause, doctors are all well and good but they only know so much and often in the end all they do is throw pills at you, I also second the idea of getting yourself a new doctor or at least a second or even third opinion.

As a side note, abstaining from sex does suggest that your partners semen or lubrication are not to blame, although these will affect vaginal pH furthering problems to some degree I would not worry too much about having sex as long as you both make sure you shower beforehand, and bacterial vaginosis is not sexually transmitted.
If you are comfortable with sex then go for it. I know what it’s like avoiding sex, no matter how much you tell them that it is not anything to do with how attracted you are to them your partner still feels a little like it is them and it can cause issues, so it is worth really addressing that problem before it becomes serious.

A lot of the time yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis go hand in hand, although some treatments may not be bacterial vaginosis specific they will deal with more general vaginal health issues. Things like acidophilus [commonly used in the form of yogurt] for example work on yeast not bacterial vaginosis because it works by producing hydrogen peroxide that kills yeast, not the ‘bad’ bacteria in the vagina, however it will help reintroduce healthy bacterial balance.

Have you tried to use boric acid?
This is one of the most successful home methods, and to be honest although tea tree oil will help boric acid is about your only self-treatment option that has any chance of working for you. It can be bought from pharmacies and health stores, if you get yourself some size 00 capsules and fill them up with boric acid, then insert two of these capsules into your vagina every night for a week. The capsules will dissolve in your vagina releasing the boric acid, as scary as it is trust me when I say it is safe, it may cause a burning sensation that should not be uncomfortable and additional discharge so get yourself some organic or cloth pantiliners just in case you need them. If it is uncomfortable then wash out, I’d also say if you have this reaction to mention it to your doctor as this sort of reaction could be a sign of problems relating to your chronic infections.

I know I haven’t really been much help, but what I would say though is to try not to let it get you down and go about treating it a different way.

Some really good advice here and it goes to show that you can treat BV with creams and potions but it will more than likely come back the only way to really treat it is to get in touch naturally with your body. I had Bv for nearly 3 years before I found a great book. If you would like to cure your bacterial vaginosis then take a look ===>Click Here To Cure Your bacterial Vaginosis<===
