With so much information out there, many women will
wonder which is the best bacterial vaginosis treatment. The very nature
of bacterial vaginosis means that antibiotics and over the counter
medications are of limited use so why is this and what are the
alternatives?
Bacterial vaginosis is caused by an imbalance of
the natural levels of bacteria which are naturally present within the
vagina. There are two types of bacteria within the vagina. One is
beneficial and helps to protect the normal workings of the vagina, the
other can be harmful if it is allowed to grow out of control. Under
normal circumstances, these two types of bacteria live in harmony, with
the good bacteria keeping the bad bacteria in check. If something
happens to upset the natural balance, the bad bacteria flourishes and
the typical symptoms of bacterial vaginosis will occur. These include
itching, burning and soreness, a gray/white discharge and the
characteristic fishy odor.
‘Bacterial Vaginosis’ can be treated with antibiotics but these will only treat the problem you have now and will not stop the BV coming back. You need to get smart with your body and build you own bodies natural bacteria balance. This can be done with probiotic drinks and natural yogurt amongst other things. After suffering with recurrent bacterial vaginosis (BV) for nearly 3 years I eventually found a totally natural cure that did not involve any antibiotics or creams. If you have bacterial vaginosis for the first time or have had recurrent bacterial vaginosis for some time this is something you really should consider looking at Bacterial Vaginosis Help – The 3 Day Cure
If antibiotics are given as treatment,
these kill off all bacteria within the vagina, both good and bad. Now
whilst this might get rid of the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis in the
short term, this is not the best bacterial vaginosis treatment as once
the effects of the antibiotics have worn off and bacteria begins to
naturally repopulate the vagina, the good bacteria will not be of
sufficient strength to ward off the effects of the harmful bacteria and
the symptoms will start over again.
This is exactly
why over 70% of women who take antibiotics for bacterial vaginosis will
have a repeat attack within a few short weeks
Antibiotics
also do nothing to treat the cause of bacterial vaginosis. By killing
off bacteria, they are simply treating the symptoms and not the
underlying cause. Another consideration is the unpleasant side effects
which they can cause. many women suffer from yeast infections,
constipation or diarrhea and nausea and very often these side effects
can be as bad as the symptoms which antibiotics were meant to cure!
With
regard to over the counter medication, this also tend to be focused on
providing symptomatic relief and will not treat the underlying cause.
Some preparations can have a soothing, calming effect in the inflamed
area, but simple home ingredients costing a fraction of the price can
provide a better option.
There is no doubt that the best
bacterial vaginosis treatment is a natural one, which looks at the
possible causes of your bacterial vaginosis and what should be done to
prevent a recurrence. Whilst antibiotics will deplete your immune
system in the long run, a good natural treatment will work to
strengthen and enhance the body’s own ability to repair itself and
prevent the overgrowth of bacteria by ensuring that the correct balance
is maintained. Natural treatments can be very economical, often making
use of simple ingredients such as live yogurt, tea tree oil and garlic
in very powerful ways and their effectiveness should not be
underestimated.
Another
issue to bear in mind is how fast different options work. Antibiotics
take between 3-5 days to begin to work whereas there are good natural
cures which will give immediate relief and some will guarantee a
complete cure within 3 days.

What is the best bacterial vag treatment. Well i would always recommend a trip to the doctor who will more than likely prescribe a course of antibiotics. Antibiotics will clear up the bacterial vaginosis the trouble with them is they only fight the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis and do nothing to fight the cause so you end up with the BV coming back.
The best bacterial vag treatment is to attack first with the antibiotics but to also use more natural treatments or everyday changes to diet and activities that will prevent the BV returning.

was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis and just started taking the antibiotics today. The doctor prescribed me 500 mg, 2 a day for 7 days. I have heard that sometimes it doesn't clear the infection and also sometimes causes yeast infection. My doctor said nothing about yeast, how will i know if my infection is cleared after taking the antibiotics, or if i have formed a yeast infection. Also, has anyone had to taket his antibiotic? Any weird side effects besides NO drinking of alcohol, i know. ? ALSO: When do symptoms start to clear up whil taking the antibiotics? I'm on my second day. Also my DR, said its non transmitable and said nothing about sex, can i have sex during treatment using a condom?
Yes an antibiotic can cause a yeast infection. It feeds the candida already present in our bodies and they can overgrow. You will know if you have a yeast infection because you will start to itch in the genital area and occasionally on other parts of your body as well. You will also get a white dicharge that looks like cottage cheese.
You may need a follow up appt. with your Dr. to re-test after finishing your antibiotic to be sure the bacterial infection cleared. If after you finish it, you have the same symptoms that made you seek treatment to begin with, you should be re-tested. If you find you have the symptoms of a yeast infection you can get an over the counter medication to treat it.
Do you and your partner a favor and always use a condom, especially while you have an infection. Your own immune system is lower and you need to take the extra precaution. Not only that, if you do get a yeast infecton, you can give that to your partner and then he can pass it back to you. No fun having to be treated again, when you could have prevented it to begin with.
As for your antibiotic, read your lable or the insert that came with it for the list of possible side effects. You did not name the kind of antibiotic prescribed. If you still can't figure it out call the pharmacy where you had it filled and ask the pharmicist what to watch for as possible allergic reactions. You can have a reaction even if you have taken the same medication safely in the past. Some restrict you from exposure to sunlight due to the increased sensitivity to the sun the medication can cause. So call and ask if you don't have the insert that was sent along with it.

Recurrent ‘Bacterial Vaginosis’ can be very traumatic to live with. Sometimes after taking all the creams, potions and antibiotics the problem still comes back time after time. After suffering with recurrent bacterial vaginosis (BV) for over 3 years I eventually found a totally natural cure. The claim was to be clear of bacterial vaginosis in 3 days. Imagine my delight when I found the claims to be totally true. If you have a fishy vaginal odor which is accompanied by a gray or white watery discharge and severe irritation around the delicate tissues of the vaginal area, it is likely that you are suffering from bacterial vaginosis. This is an extremely common condition which can effect 1 in 3 women over the course of their lives, although some experts reckon that almost every woman will have had a least one mild attack.
Fortunately, natural treatment for bacterial vaginosis can be highly effective and, due to the very nature of the condition, can work much more effectively than expensive antibiotics and over the counter remedies.
Bacterial vaginosis is caused by an imbalance of the naturally occurring bacteria within the vagina. Under normal circumstances, the beneficial bacteria within the vagina keeps the harmful bacteria under control by ensuring that the pH balance is maintained at a slightly acidic level. When something happens to cause an imbalance, the harmful bacteria flourishes and causes the unpleasant symptoms of bacterial vaginosis which includes vaginal fishy odor.
The main aim of any treatment is to eliminate the harmful bacteria and restore balance and of course to get rid of vaginal fishy odor. Although antibiotics will kill off the harmful bacteria, they are unable to distinguish between beneficial and harmful bacteria and therefore kill off all bacteria. Unfortunately, once the antibiotics are finished and bacteria naturally begins to repopulate the vagina, it takes a while for the beneficial bacteria to grow strong enough to be defensive and so as soon as any bad bacteria is introduced, the whole cycle begins again. This is why over half of all women who take antibiotics for this condition have a repeat attack within a few short weeks.
natural treatment for bacterial vaginosis to eliminate vaginal fishy odor works by strengthening the body’s own defenses, enabling the good bacteria to be able to easily control any harmful strains.
One simple measure which can help to get rid of vaginal fishy odor includes using tea tree oil. Tea tree oil has powerful natural antibacterial properties and a few drops in the bath can help to kill off harmful bacteria. In addition, some women have found that using pessaries made from tea tree oil can be an excellent home remedies for bacterial vaginosis and these are available from health food stores.
Probiotic yogurt is another good home remedies for bacterial vaginosis. Simply eating a pot of live yogurt daily can help to replenish the body’s stores of beneficial bacteria. Some women find it useful to soak a tampon in the yogurt and insert it directly into the vagina for a couple of hours.
Another good natural remedy is cider vinegar. a couple of cups added to a bath of warm water can help to bring natural balance back to the vagina.

went to the doctor, took medication, bv came right back…im @ a loss of what to do?
Sometimes all bacterial infections can take more than one round of medication. Or you may have contracted something like Giardia, which requires a medication called Flagyl. Talk with your Dr. about whether you or your partner had any additional partners during the time you took the meds.
Good luck.

A lot has been written about bacterial vaginosis treatment. One thing I have learnt is that there are a lot of bacterial vaginosis treatments out there and some work better than others but one thing that isn’t clear is how some treatments work well for one women yet have no effect for others.
So how do you go about finding a good bacterial vaginosis treatment. Well for me its about a two stage attack. if you have bacterial vaginosis then you really need to get it treated but you also need to prevent it from returning. it is one thing to treat the actual symptoms of BV but you also need stop the root cause of the vaginitis.
Stage 1, the treatment. One of the best known methods of treatment for BV is supplements in lactobacillus Acidophilus. These can be found in capsule form from most good health stores. Adding good bacteria directly in to your body will help maintain a healthy balance within the body and fight any infection. Just as an idea natural yogurt also contains the same lactobacillus and can be eaten or for a more immediate reaction can be applied directly to the vagina.
I got to run now but I willcome back with stage 2 later….. prevention.
