Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common cause of vaginal infection (vaginitis). For grammatical reasons, some people prefer to call it vaginal bacteriosis. It is NOT generally considered to be a sexually transmitted infection.

BV is caused by an imbalance of naturally occurring bacterial flora, and should not be confused with yeast infection (candidiasis), or infection with Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis) which are not caused by bacteria.

BV is a disordering of the chemical and biological balance of the normal flora.

Cervicitis is an inflammation of the uterine cervix, usually caused by infection.

Cervicitis is most often caused by an infection. However, in a few cases it may be due to chemical exposure or a device inserted into the pelvic area such as a pessary (a device to support the uterus), cervical cap (a birth control device), or diaphragm. The presence of the foreign object may make the cervix more susceptible to infection.

The condition may also be caused by an allergy to contraceptive spermicides or to latex in condoms.

Cervicitis is very common, affecting more than half of all women at some point during their adult lives. Intercourse at an early age, high-risk sexual behavior, multiple sexual partners, and a history of sexually transmitted disease increase a woman's risk of cervicitis.

a yellow discharge after menstrauation with some blood clot and abdominal pain ? what is that

Women with BV may have an abnormal vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor. Some women report a strong fish-like odor, especially after intercourse. Discharge, if present, is usually white or gray; it can be thin. Women with BV may also have burning during urination or itching around the outside of the vagina, or both. However, most women with BV report no signs or symptoms at all.

What are the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis?

I just got from the ER with flu like symptoms, stabbing stomach pain, and vaginal bleeding. I was diagnosed with BV. I have been doing research on BV but have not located where any of my symptoms have been noted. I am scheduling an apt with my obgyn tomorrow. Could there be more issues at hand or just BV? Also can BV cause any other female reprotuctive peoblems? Has anyone else experienced my symptons with BV? Thanks

You may develop a grayish-white, foul-smelling discharge. The odor, often described as fish-like, may be more obvious after sexual intercourse. You may also have vaginal itching or irritation, pain during intercourse, painful urination, and light vaginal bleeding.

Having BV can increase a woman's susceptibility to HIV infection if she is exposed to the HIV virus. It increases the chances that an HIV-infected woman can pass HIV to her sex partner. It has been associated with an increase in the development of an infection following surgical procedures such as a hysterectomy or an abortion. Having BV while pregnant may put a woman at increased risk for some complications of pregnancy. BV can increase a woman's susceptibility to other STDs, such as Chlamydia and gonorrhea.

What are your thoughts on the subject?

I noticed the symptoms just after sex. I didn’t shower right away. But it wouldn’t have washed away all the semen even if I had. I don’t want to douche every time I have sex. What else can we do? Should my SO be treated for BV also?

Yes I agree with “its now or never”. and yes your SO should be treated because you got it a second time so soon.

Bacterial vaginosis?

I was wondering if anyone has ever had bacterial vaginosis and what your symptoms were. I thought I had a yeast infection, so I took medication, but it has not gone away. I also figured out that it wasn't intense itching as a yeast infection is (i've had one before), just irritated and a twitch here and there. Could this be BV?
I'm not sexually active, so it cant be an STD

I don't know exactly what is going on down there, but you should make an appoitment with your OB /GYN tomorrow. You shouldn't live with irritaiton and left untreated BV can lead to a whole host of other problems.

Will Ciprofloxacin clear up bacterial vaginosis?

i went to the dr — they said that i had traces of white blood cells in my urine. i have all the symptoms for bacterial vaginosis, and am pretty sure that's what it is, even the doctor said that was a possibility, either that or a yeast infection and i'm positive its not that because i've had those before– however i do not want to have another internal gyn exam. will Ciprofloxacin clear up bacterial vaginosis?

You may be talking about two different infections. Urinary tract infection versus vaginal infection.

What else did the doctor tell you? White blood cells can indicate urinary tract infection. Other symptoms, including itching, odor, and discharge, can indicate vaginal infection. Some symptoms may go with both.

Only take the Cipro if your doctor ordered it. Don't take leftover Cipro from another illness.

I thought I had the symptoms but my doctor said she didn't find it and couldn't smell anything. Is it possible that she missed it or that the test was wrong? Should I ask for another test?

If your doctor performed the test and it came up negative, I would go with that. If you are still not sure, or want to try and rule out something else, I would suggest going to the drug store and picking up one of those home self tests from Vagisil.

I may have bacterial vaginosis, what now?

I haven't been diagnosed yet, but I think I may have the right symptoms for bacterial vaginosis (foul smell, itchy). I'm on my period so I don't know if I'm having weird discharge. I also just lost my virginity, which I heard can add to the cause (new sexual partner).
I've never been to a gynecologist. I want to seek treatment/diagnosis from a doctor but this is something that I can't let my parents find out about; should I go to Planned Parenthood, or can I go to a gynecologist w/o my parents finding out? Also I'm not sure how I'd pay for all of this so would Planned Parenthood be free?

ALSO, are there any home remedies I can try in the meantime (I've heard yogurt)?

First off if you are just going off of foul smell & itchy you might be over reacting. There are many other issues with those symptoms. It does not matter where you go they are not allowed to discuss your visit with your parents. Look into your state because some states do have loop holes where they can call your parents on certain cases (i.e. pregnancy, etc in a minor). Planned Parenthood goes off of your income, Health Department goes off of your income. My recommendation: Talk to your mother. She may be upset for a while but she WILL appreciate you being honest with her.

If you do yogurt it has to be plain yogurt…

Any ideas?

How do you get it? I wakeboard a lot, so could being in lake water cause it?

itching is a sign.. and a lot of times you discover that you have one right after your period is finished. Thats what has happened to me anyway. Also, i never began to get bacterial vaginosis until i started to have anal sex or any kind of anal play. I haven't gotten one in a while since i have made sure to keep myself extremely clean especially before sex and made it very clear to my partner that he needs to be careful to not let any bacteria get near my vagina. This may not be your case though. But the only prescription that has ever worked for me in clindesse. Its a one does applicator that clears it up right away. So basically you get bv when the balances of bacteria are thrown off in your vagina. Other things can cause it too. I think i had abut 4 or 5 of those last year. NOT FUN.
