I’ve read on various sites about using the plain yogurt or capsule/tablets to cure BV. Has anyone tried it? How to get the capsules in there and dissolve?

Ever since i gave birth 3 months ago i have been very uncomfortable down there. I finally went to the doctor and he told me i had bv. I get bv after just about every period and I am tired of throwing my money away to the doctor for him to tell me something that I already know. I’ve been taking the acidophilus capsules for over a week now and they don’t seem to work. I ran across Rephresh which is suppose to balance the ph balance in the vagina. It absolutely will NOT cure BV but it is very helpful in preventing further episodes. You probably should use it after every period and after sex as well. If you think you currently have BV, you need to get treated first and then start using the rephresh after that.
Sounds like you are quite knowledgeable about BV and I am sure you probably know all the things associated with it but here is my little rant anyway. Stay far far away from douching and any perfumed products for cleansing the genitals. You probably know all about the wiping from front to back and avoiding sexual practices that can drag bacteria from the rectal area to the vagina. A safe product for cleaning the vaginal area is Purpose. The normal bacteria in the vagina maintain the pH at the appropriate level but some women lack the normal amount of these bacteria called lactobacillus and there is nothing you can do to get more lactobacillus. BV tends to recur over and over again for these women and you may just be one of them. You may need to periodically get treated with the standard treatment but the rephresh is at least worth a try to see if it can reduce the number of episodes you have. good luck, it is a tough problem because you cant really cure it, but you can manage it

i have had this nasty infection 4 times in the past 6 months. antiboitics take it away but it returns after a short time as i cant get my "good bacteria" to return. is there any cream i can buy to restore my balance?

Actually, that's probably the reason it keeps coming back.
Antibiotics are a nice idea on paper because they kill the bad bacteria quickly… but most people don't realize that it also kills the good bacteria that lives in your intestinal tract and in women's vaginas. Unfortunately, the good bacteria can also help to defend against yeast infections and some bacterial infections, so when the antibiotic killed off that good bacteria, your body had no defense left against the infections. I would recommend starting on a high potency probiotic as soon as possible to help replenish that good bacteria so they can fight against it. If you keep on a good probiotic, you probably won't see the infection come back any time soon.

Also, the other answer that mentioned wearing cotton underwear is a good idea while your body is recovering (to keep the moisture around the vagina lower so it's not as hospitable to the yeast). And yogurt is a good idea to eat because it has probiotics, but it doesn't have as much of a quantity as most supplements of probiotics would. Good luck!
