Bacterial Vaginosis RemediesTo Relieve An Embarrassing Problem

January 31st, 2010

Natural bacterial vaginosis treatments are always the best approach to an embarrassing problem. Many women suffer needlessly with the ever present symptoms such as the fishy foul odour. The pharmaceutical medications given to you by your physician kills off all the dangerous bacteria together with the constructive ones. When there is proper balance, the good bacteria limits the bad. Probiotic treatment can help cure the illness by restoring the quantity of good bacteria in the vagina and this is a good bacterial vaginosis solution.

Sexual intercourse may aggrevate bacterial vaginosis so it is best to abstain whilst there is a problem. Another way to help the situation is to wear cotton underpants to reduce excess moisture in the area through absorption. These types of garments keep bacteria from growing in damp areas and panty liners are one option to keep odor and discharge from being a problem. It is advisable to avoid the scented kind of liners because the perfume may cause further aggravation of the situation.

A lot of other women are also going through this just as you may be right now. Bacterial Vaginosis is one of the most common types of viral infections and is oftened confused with a yeast infection. If you are plagued by this problem, you know first hand that it can be uncomfortable but you should take comfort in the fact that others have this problem too and are looking for a natural bacterial vaginosis cure.

The most common symptoms are as described and are similar to a yeast infection. There are plenty of natural cures for bacterial vaginosis and by using home remedies, you can get the help and relief you are desperate for naturally. One of the finest techniques to heal bacterial vaginosis is to use grape fruit extract and has worked well for many women. It is as easy as mixing about 10 to 15 drops of grapefruit in a bowl and using it to wash the vaginal area. By standing in the shower, you can easily do this treatment for about five to ten minutes each day to help the problem.

Stay away from any scented products such as perfumed soaps or any chemically enhanced perfume substances. Stick to mild, natural soaps as they do not take away the natural oils from the skin. Bacterial vaginosis relief begins by maintaining a healthy diet with plenty of vitamin C. Another natural bacterial vaginosis cure is the wonderful health oil, tea tree oil, as it causes a calming effect on the vagina. Applying either yogurt or water and vinegar mixed together is one very helpful treatment for bacterial vaginosis and it can be applied right to the vaginal area for a quick and natural treatment. It helps ease the itching and discomfort and is a great bacterial vaginosis home remedy.

Is there a natural bacterial vaginosis remedy???

January 24th, 2010

I have read many many posts on line, and I have looked online all night… for about 2 months I have had a BAD case of the fishy smell mainly after sex and my husband asked me to fix it LOL… it's horrible and I don't do antibiotics… SO I see very expensive pills for sale and some creams, it seems there should be a more realistic approach and cost friendly… so far I am considering taking a multivitamin that has probiotics in it along with acidolpholus (sp) sorry… and what I am not sure about is what to put inside considering peroxide or garlic oil from what I have read… maybe yogurt??? also I have an active sex life with my husband, so should I take a shower after sex at night and then do the treatments? Also don't want to sound retarded, but I didn't have a mom to teach me these things, I'm 29… should I not use soap inside? Since I have had this awful smell I have been washing…??? Advise PLEASE my poor husband!!! It's so embarrassing… Thanks! It's hard to find en

You don't want to put peroxide inside of you. It can irritate the skin. And soap is bad too. Best bet is to only use water while cleaning your vagina. And don't clean it inside – it cleans itself naturally. Putting foreign things inside can cause for infections.

A lot of times, semen in the vagina can trigger BV. (it does for me). This is because semen is alkaline based and our vaginas are acidic. The semen disrupts the PH balance allowing for bad bacteria to overgrow.

Acidophilous creates peroxide naturally in your vagina. You'd be best off with a dosage of 2billion+. I've used this method in preventing BV – and it has worked quite well for me, personally.
If you get the tablets (not capsules filled – they are grainy your husband will get grainy stuff on his no-no spot) you can place them inside after sex and this should help a lot in preventing BV from developing.

A clove of garlic wrapped in cheese cloth with unwaxed dental floss tied to the end works too. Garlic kills fungus like in a yeast infection (which is often present along side BV) and it has high antibacterial properties.

I haven't tried plain yogurt but hear it works well. Acidophilous is the active cultures that are found in yogurt.

bacterial vaginosis cure?

January 17th, 2010

I had been taking perscription pills for my bacterial vaginosis for 7 days and when I had finished it came back. I then read somewhere that if u drink 1 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 cup of water it will cure it. Does this work? And if so…how often do I drink this mixture? Thanks~

Sorry to say that is nonsense, your digestive system can have an effect on your vaginal health but trying to cure vaginal infections such as these via ingesting something like this won’t work, I’m also not quite sure what baking soda is going to do. Basically home methods are a no-go simply because they don’t work, most will agree that when it comes to a bacterial infection antibiotics are needed, which means going to your doctor, the only thing you can do is prevent the infections to begin with. Some suggestions for prevention;

Don’t use tampons or commercial pads, these encourage bacterial growth and chemicals within them throw off vaginal pH, thus they are a major cause of infections such as BV and thrush. Tampons are the worst in terms of health and hygiene within the vagina, commercial pads and liners encourage bacterial growth outside the vagina. Try organic options free from chemicals, additives, bleach and synthetics, if you use pads or liners try cloth options which are more hygienic than commercial brands, if using tampons consider menstrual cups, as well as safer and more hygienic they have many other benefits over tampons.

Washing too often washes away fluids and 'good' bacteria vital to vagina's self-cleaning functions. Only wash with water, anything chemical such as soaps, wipes or bubble baths can interfere with vaginal pH and vaginal flora, soaps also can't tell the difference between 'good' and 'bad' bacteria. So-called 'feminine' cleaning products marketed specifically to play on women's insecurities can be just as harmful. Douching is particularly bad as it strips away vaginal fluids and pushes harmful bacteria up deeper. Make sure to dry after washing but as towels can harbour bacteria, try a hairdryer on a cool setting.

Although BV is not an STI it can be passed back and forth between partners just like any other infection, so if sexually active but not using condoms get your partner treated too. Semen can cause problems as it has different pH to your vagina so can push things over the edge if your vagina is already a little off balance, so it's best to avoid sex feasting as your vagina may not be able to adjust quickly enough. Some women also find specific partners can cause problems. Watch out for lubricants that contain nonoxynol-9 as this can cause serious problems for some women. Some women experience problems using hormonal birth control as the hormonal change in turn leads to changes in their vagina throwing everything into chaos.

There are the normal things too such as tight clothing and synthetics that prevent aeration to your groin making the area warm and moist, perfect for bacteria and yeast – this is also another reason to avoid liners. If you are sitting down all day at work then your groin may also be getting warm and sweaty, not to mention if you hot desk the seats will be full of bacteria from others, so get up and walk around occasionally. Check toilet habits making sure to wipe front to back and wipe your backside well to avoid bacteria getting onto your underwear – also try tea tree oil when washing to help kill any bacteria within your underwear.

What is bacterial vaginosis, and what are some signs and symptoms, besides discharge and odor?

January 15th, 2010

How do you get it? I wakeboard a lot, so could being in lake water cause it?

itching is a sign.. and a lot of times you discover that you have one right after your period is finished. Thats what has happened to me anyway. Also, i never began to get bacterial vaginosis until i started to have anal sex or any kind of anal play. I haven't gotten one in a while since i have made sure to keep myself extremely clean especially before sex and made it very clear to my partner that he needs to be careful to not let any bacteria get near my vagina. This may not be your case though. But the only prescription that has ever worked for me in clindesse. Its a one does applicator that clears it up right away. So basically you get bv when the balances of bacteria are thrown off in your vagina. Other things can cause it too. I think i had abut 4 or 5 of those last year. NOT FUN.

is the treatment for BV [Bacterial vaginosis] a pill or a antibacterial liquid?

January 9th, 2010

because my cousin cant swallow pills and she thinks she might have it.

Hi There,
I am a chronic sufferer of BV too, so I thought to send you some of the info i came across as I BATTLE this monster so to speak ( just to give you and your cousin added details ) coz you said she think she might have it or maybe not, anyway, heres some of it:

Bacterial vaginitis is a vaginal infection. It is one of the most common reasons for vaginitis during reproductive years. Bacterial vaginitis is not a STD; however it can be caused through sexual intercourse. It can also occur among lesbians through exchange of vaginal fluids.

Some of the signs and symptoms of bacterial vaginitis are as follows.
- There could be changes in the odor and colour of the vaginal discharge.
- Itching or irritation in vagina.
- Pain while urinating.
- Light bleeding from vagina.
- Fishy odor and grayish white discharge from vagina; especially after sexual intercourse

Bacterial vaginitis Causes
The main cause of bacterial vaginitis is an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria and the Gardnerella organism. Generally in a vagina there are more Lactobacillus bacteria than bad bacteria like Gardnerella Vaginalis and Mobiluncus. When the number of bad bacteria increases in vagina, they upset the balance. and this imbalance causes bacterial vaginitis
This imbalance could be caused due to various reasons such as
-Repeated sexual intercourse in a short duration which leads to a rise in the vaginal pH and results in growth of bacteria and infectionlike symptoms.
-Moisture (for long period of time) in the vaginal area caused by restrictive and nonabsorbent synthetic clothing.
-Use of chemicals that may cause irritation.
-Use of antibiotics that disrupt the balance of the bacterial environment in the vagina.
Remedies for Bacterial vaginitis: Treating Naturally
- Eat or apply plain yogurt directly to the vagina. Alternatively, a tampon soaked in yogurt can be inserted.
- Garlic has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Garlic can be taken internally or can be applied directly on the vagina.
- Use calendula herb to reduce the inflammation.
- Herbs like tea tree oil, black walnut, Echinacea and goldenseal are effective in treating bacterial vaginitis.
- Soak a tea bag in water and cool it in refrigerator and then apply it to the vagina.
Diet for Bacterial vaginitis: Eat a healthy diet comprising of fresh fruits and vegetables. Include flax seed oil and meal in your diet. Drink lots of water. Eat non vegetarian foods like meat, poultry and fish. Eat whole grains. Avoid alcohol, refined flour, processed foods, sugar, coffee and saturated fats.
Other ways to deal with the problem
-Use well washed under garments.
- Maintain good toilet hygiene.
- Always take a warm bath.
- Avoid irritants like scented tampons.
- Use condoms during sexual intercourse.
- Always keep vaginal area clean.
- Clean your vagina area thoroughly after having sex.
- Avoid tight clothes and wear cotton panties.
- Avoid douching as it disturbs the balance of the microorganisms within the vagina.
- Be sure to clean diaphragms, cervical caps and spermicide applicators after each use.
- Take care to clean the anal area from front to back to prevent the intestinal bacteria from spreading into the vagina.
Now these are the facts about BV as well as the natural or herbal meds to used, as for your quest, suppositories are widely prescribed now, specifically NEOPENOTRAN supp to be inserted in the vagina 1-2 a day, depends on the severely of the infection, my OB gave me 2x a day every 12 hrs one in morning b4 I get out of bed and then the other before I sleep,it stings a bit but it sure is effective. You can have exceessive discharge as you are taking the meds. A pill that is as effective too is Flagyl or metronidazole taken 3x/day for a week is effective too. But as always prevention is better than cure, for BV is very recurrent, I know for I seem to have the infection every now & then.

I hope this info helps a bit. Godbless.

26 weeks pregnant and diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis?

January 2nd, 2010

I've apparently had it for a few weeks… at first the doctor diagnosed me with a yeast infection I used the 7 day treatment as directed then today… the 7th day I noticed I was swollen and irritated still and by chance the nurse calls me and tells me I have bacterial vaginosis.
Im pretty mad at them for having me go through a yeast infection treatment needlessly especially during pregnancy .. I've had symptoms of pre-term labor with this pregnancy already aside from this… and now hearing this is scaring the crap out of me since its apparent I've had it for several weeks untreated.

Im just starting the antibiotics now…..I am aware of what it is but my question is,,,,, did anyone else have this and end up with a pre-term delivery???? How much do I need to be concerned with this? I've read up on it even before I got the offical diagnosis since I suspected it while treating myself for a yeast infection.

P.S this is my third pregnancy.

I had to deal with both during my entire pregnancy and I had a healthy girl born on her due date! I was opposite from you because they treated me for bacterial vaginosis and then called me almost a week later and told me it was a yeast infection and everything turned out fine. Don;t worry yourself and good luck!
