How to use vaginal tablets for bacterial vaginosis?

December 27th, 2009

I'm worried I might have a yeast infection, or bacterial vaginosis. There are tablets I found to cure it, but I am not sure how to use it. They are called CENASERT tablets. How do I use these tablets? Do I insert them, and leave it there?

Yes, you insert the tablets at night before you go to bed and leave them in there. They will dissolve overnight. You may find some remnant of the tablet in the morning, but that's o.k. the majority of the tablet has absorbed into your system.

Any drugs that can cure Bacterial Vaginosis without medical prescription?

December 22nd, 2009

It seems like all the medicine that used to cure BV need doctor’s prescription.

It’s better to use a perscription, I know there are over-the-counter medicines for yeast infections, but I’m not sure about bacterial vaginosis.

Bacterial Vaginosis Cure – Safe, Effective Home Treatment For Bacterial Vaginosis?

December 15th, 2009

Any remedies with sites that have worked for you?

Bacterial vaginosis results from an imbalance in pH levels in the vagina. Though antibiotics are commonly used, they may also destroy some of the useful bacteria and there’s the added risk of recurrence as well. A safer, more effective way is to treat vaginosis with natural remedies like Femanol or a 0.75% metronidazole vaginal gel that has a cure rate of up to 71%.

Hi There,
I am a chronic sufferer of BV too, so I thought to send you some of the info i came across as I BATTLE this monster so to speak ( just to give you and your cousin added details ) coz you said she think she might have it or maybe not, anyway, heres some of it:

Bacterial vaginitis is a vaginal infection. It is one of the most common reasons for vaginitis during reproductive years. Bacterial vaginitis is not a STD; however it can be caused through sexual intercourse. It can also occur among lesbians through exchange of vaginal fluids.

Some of the signs and symptoms of bacterial vaginitis are as follows.
- There could be changes in the odor and colour of the vaginal discharge.
- Itching or irritation in vagina.
- Pain while urinating.
- Light bleeding from vagina.
- Fishy odor and grayish white discharge from vagina; especially after sexual intercourse

Bacterial vaginitis Causes
The main cause of bacterial vaginitis is an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria and the Gardnerella organism. Generally in a vagina there are more Lactobacillus bacteria than bad bacteria like Gardnerella Vaginalis and Mobiluncus. When the number of bad bacteria increases in vagina, they upset the balance. and this imbalance causes bacterial vaginitis
This imbalance could be caused due to various reasons such as
-Repeated sexual intercourse in a short duration which leads to a rise in the vaginal pH and results in growth of bacteria and infectionlike symptoms.
-Moisture (for long period of time) in the vaginal area caused by restrictive and nonabsorbent synthetic clothing.
-Use of chemicals that may cause irritation.
-Use of antibiotics that disrupt the balance of the bacterial environment in the vagina.
Remedies for Bacterial vaginitis: Treating Naturally
- Eat or apply plain yogurt directly to the vagina. Alternatively, a tampon soaked in yogurt can be inserted.
- Garlic has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Garlic can be taken internally or can be applied directly on the vagina.
- Use calendula herb to reduce the inflammation.
- Herbs like tea tree oil, black walnut, Echinacea and goldenseal are effective in treating bacterial vaginitis.
- Soak a tea bag in water and cool it in refrigerator and then apply it to the vagina.
Diet for Bacterial vaginitis: Eat a healthy diet comprising of fresh fruits and vegetables. Include flax seed oil and meal in your diet. Drink lots of water. Eat non vegetarian foods like meat, poultry and fish. Eat whole grains. Avoid alcohol, refined flour, processed foods, sugar, coffee and saturated fats.
Other ways to deal with the problem
-Use well washed under garments.
- Maintain good toilet hygiene.
- Always take a warm bath.
- Avoid irritants like scented tampons.
- Use condoms during sexual intercourse.
- Always keep vaginal area clean.
- Clean your vagina area thoroughly after having sex.
- Avoid tight clothes and wear cotton panties.
- Avoid douching as it disturbs the balance of the microorganisms within the vagina.
- Be sure to clean diaphragms, cervical caps and spermicide applicators after each use.
- Take care to clean the anal area from front to back to prevent the intestinal bacteria from spreading into the vagina.
Now these are the facts about BV as well as the natural or herbal meds to used, as for your quest, suppositories are widely prescribed now, specifically NEOPENOTRAN supp to be inserted in the vagina 1-2 a day, depends on the severely of the infection, my OB gave me 2x a day every 12 hrs one in morning b4 I get out of bed and then the other before I sleep,it stings a bit but it sure is effective. You can have exceessive discharge as you are taking the meds. A pill that is as effective too is Flagyl or metronidazole taken 3x/day for a week is effective too. But as always prevention is better than cure, for BV is very recurrent, I know for I seem to have the infection every now and then.

i have recurrent bacterial vaginosis does anyone no something that will help?

December 6th, 2009

BV is typically treated with antibiotic medication. Metronidazole (Flagyl) is the first-choice treatment for BV. If you aren’t pregnant, you can choose to take it by mouth (orally) or by inserting it into the vagina; pregnant women are only treated orally.

Antibiotic treatment for BV can lead to vaginal yeast infections because the medications change the balance of organisms in the vagina, allowing an excess of yeast to grow. You may be able to prevent this by regularly eating yogurt with active Lactobacillus acidophilus culture or taking L. acidophilus dietary supplements.

Some women have success with using oral or vaginal lactobacillus by itself to treat bacterial vaginosis.

If you have been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis (BV), you can use lactobacillus (as in yogurt) to help restore the balance of vaginal bacteria, either along with or instead of antibiotic treatment. Lactobacillus organisms stop the growth of harmful bacteria, boost the immune system, and increase resistance to infection.

Good luck to you! I had BV last year and it’s not fun!
