Hi. I am 9 weeks pregnant and I had some slight spotting on Sunday, so I went in for an ultrasound on Monday morning. Baby looked great, measuring right on target with a good heartbeat. I went back in yesterday for a pelvic exam and discovered I have bacterial vaginosis. I was prescribed Flagyl for this infection, but my doctor told me that it isn't recommended in the first trimester because there haven't been any studies performed on women in the first tri taking this medication. He said if it gets worse to go ahead and take it, but if it isn't bothering me, to wait until 12 weeks. I am nervous that letting this go "untreated" for 3 more weeks will hurt my baby. Me and my husband tried for 7 months for this little one and we love him/her so much already, I would be devastated if something happened. So my question is… Have you been in this position? If so, what/when did you take the medication? Also, do the risks of getting an infection in my uterus outweight the risks of Flagyl?
I had BV during my first trimester and I didn't take anything for it. I had BV during my intire pregnancy…I did take Diflucan(spelling?) In my second and third trimesters. My baby was born premature, but only because I had Preeclampsia…Other then him being small and born at 30 weeks he had no trouble, I would try to hold off on the medication he gave you if you can. Keep clean and dry – it will help alot.
Recurrent‘Bacterial Vaginosis’ can be very traumatic to live with. Sometimes after taking all the creams, potions and antibiotics the problem still comes back time after time. After suffering with recurrent bacterial vaginosis (BV) for nearly 3 years I eventually found a totally natural cure. The claim was to be clear of bacterial vaginosis in 3 days. Imagine my delight when I found the claims to be totally true. If you have bacterial vaginosis for the first time or have had recurrent bacterial vaginosis for some time this is something you really should consider looking at Bacterial Vaginosis Help – The 3 Day Cure

A fishy odor “down there” is never a good thing, but it can also be a sign of one of the most common bacterial infections in women – get the treatment you need ASAP.
Last year May I was diag. with bacterial vaginosis and treated with a dose of 3 pills at one time. (I also had an abnormal pap & colposcopy which came out negative.) I did not feel right and went back recently. I was diag. with vaginosis again and was given Flagyl for 7 days. I saw my regular MD for the past month for other symptoms, after a urine test said I had a UTI and gave me a dose of Cipro (3 pills/3 days.) I have finished this dosing and still 2 weeks later know that I am not right. I am going to go back t the Gyn again for a 4th treatment. Before the summer I have never had anything like this not even a yeast infection.
I have been going to my MD for other symptoms such has palpitations, high blood pressure (145/100), dizzy spells, nausea spells, fatigue, headaches, ear infections, flushing, periods of low body temp (94 deg) and low pulse, night sweats, sleep apnea and brown spots on my back. Now Im just nervous that the bacterial vaginosis could be a sign something else??
Could be something else. If it was me, I would get some probiotics. They have given you so many antibiotics I would think your bacterial balance is out of whack. Eat some yogurt or get some acidophilus pills at the health food store. This will put good bacteria back in your body and maybe get you balanced out. It should help with the BV. It will not help with the HBP or palpitations. But one thing at a time.
I just started taking lactobacillus acidophilus yesterday because I’m starting to get the smell for bacterial vaginosis. How long does it take for it to take effect? And also I’ve heard of lactobacillus acidophilus suppositories…can anyone tell me where I can get those and does it take effect faster than the capsules?
I had a pretty severe case of BV that would not go away. I tried creams, antibiotics, even boric acid vaginal suppositories for two weeks. I tried acidophilus vaginally, but not for long. If you buy the kind in capsules, you can just use those, it doesn’t have to be a special kind, but I don’t know if it will work. I came across some information online about taking folic acid (orally) and how it was a cure for BV. I thought it was stupid and a long shot, but I was desperate, so I tried it. I have not itched AT ALL since I took the first folic acid supplement. I am taking 800mg twice a day and so far, so good. I REALLY didn’t think this would work, but I am happy to say that IT DID!!!!!!! And from my research it seems that taking the daily recommended amount will prevent BV from returning. Good luck, I know this is awful!
