can bacterial vaginosis be caused by pads too and not just tampons? if you dont get bacterial vaginosis treated asap can it turn into something more serious like hiv/aids or some kind of std? and also what are ways too help control discharge from bacterial vaginosis?

It can be caused by excess bacteria from many different sources, not just tampons and should be treated as soon as possible. It does not turn into hiv/aids or any other kind of std, but will grow worse if left untreated and will cause further problems. Keep the area clean and dry, go to your gynecologist and get it treated promptly and ask if you can use a regular vinegar/water douche to control the discharge. Don't try to douche before you see your doctor because you want your doctor to be able to diagnose it correctly first.

I have been diagnosed as having bacterial vaginosis. My period is almost two weeks late now. I KNOW that I’m NOT pregnant because I have been practicing abstinence for the past year. Can this infection be the cause of my missed period? I have never missed a period, other than the time I was pregnant with my daughter so this is not a usual thing for me. I am a little bit worried. Thanks in advance to anyone that answers.

This condition does not normally affect the menstrual cycle.

I strongly suggest you contact your OB/GYN as soon as possible.

Now as a sidebar, don't worry. It is probably just the stress of worrying about this infection that is delaying your period.

But the best thing for you to do is to contact your doctor so he/she can put you at east.

Take care and I wish you well.

i went to the dr — they said that i had traces of white blood cells in my urine. i have all the symptoms for bacterial vaginosis, and am pretty sure that's what it is, even the doctor said that was a possibility, either that or a yeast infection and i'm positive its not that because i've had those before– however i do not want to have another internal gyn exam. will Ciprofloxacin clear up bacterial vaginosis?

You may be talking about two different infections. Urinary tract infection versus vaginal infection.

What else did the doctor tell you? White blood cells can indicate urinary tract infection. Other symptoms, including itching, odor, and discharge, can indicate vaginal infection. Some symptoms may go with both.

Only take the Cipro if your doctor ordered it. Don't take leftover Cipro from another illness.

Some Bacteria can be resistant to amoxy/pen. the only way to know for sure is to have the bacteria cultured to see what it is sensitive to. If it is resistant to amoxy/pen taking it can make the infection worse and the bacteria more resistant. Antibiotics should only be taken under the direction of a medical doctor.

I thought I had the symptoms but my doctor said she didn't find it and couldn't smell anything. Is it possible that she missed it or that the test was wrong? Should I ask for another test?

If your doctor performed the test and it came up negative, I would go with that. If you are still not sure, or want to try and rule out something else, I would suggest going to the drug store and picking up one of those home self tests from Vagisil.

My boyfriend tells me that I have a strong acidic taste. Could bacterial vaginosis or a yeast infection be the cause? I don’t think i have a yi though.

It is extremely important to obtain an accurate diagnosis before trying to find a cure. Many diseases and conditions share common symptoms: if you treat yourself for the wrong illness or a specific symptom of a complex disease, you may delay legitimate treatment of a serious underlying problem. In other words, the greatest danger in self-treatment may be self-diagnosis. If you do not know what you really have, you can not treat it!

It does sound very much like BV but its nothing to worry about and with the right infomation it can be cured quickly and easily. Click here for more info

One of the finest techniques to heal bacterial vaginosis is to use grape fruit extract and has worked well for many women. By standing in the shower, you can easily do this treatment for about five to ten minutes each day to help the problem.

Stay away from any scented products such as perfumed soaps or any chemically enhanced perfume substances. Stick to mild, natural soaps as they do not take away the natural oils from the skin. Bacterial vaginosis relief begins by maintaining a healthy diet with plenty of vitamin C. Another natural bacterial vaginosis cure is the wonderful health oil, tea tree oil, as it causes a calming effect on the vagina. Applying either yogurt or water and vinegar mixed together is one very helpful treatment for bacterial vaginosis and it can be applied right to the vaginal area for a quick and natural treatment.
